The AVP, PMO is responsible for leading several critical business teams including project management, continuous improvement, S&OP, sustainability, internal audit, business continuity, and the deviation root cause investigation team. This role establishes and enforces best practices in project governance, resource allocation, and execution to enhance operational efficiency, mitigate risks, and support strategic business objectives. By fostering a culture of accountability and innovation, the AVP, PMO ensures the successful delivery of key initiatives that optimize processes, improve performance, and drive sustainable growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the enterprise-wide Project Management Organization (PMO) which includes the project management, continuous improvement, S&OP, sustainability, internal audit, and deviation root cause investigation functions.
- Ensure alignment between the PMO and business objectives.
- Develop and enforce improved project management methodologies, governance frameworks, and best practices.
- Drive to achieve internal and external customer requirements through appropriate allocation of resources and a focus on customer satisfaction.
- Assign and direct Project Managers in their efforts to support client-based projects ensuring that project plans, with the appropriate milestones and deliverables, are created, implemented, and monitored.
- Ensure that the systems supporting financial revenue recognition, invoice requests, and change orders are maintained and performed in a timely, effective manner working with Finance and Business Development as well as other departments.
- Oversee the planning, execution, and tracking of cross-functional projects to ensure on-time and within-budget delivery.
- Manage project portfolios, prioritizing initiatives based on business impact and resource availability.
- Provide executive-level reporting on project performance, risks, and key milestones.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives by identifying inefficiencies and implementing process enhancements.
- Establish a culture of Lean, Six Sigma, or other operational excellence methodologies across teams.
- Oversee structured root cause analysis (RCA) for operational failures, quality deviations, and process issues.
- Implement corrective and preventive action (CAPA) plans to mitigate recurrence of issues.
- Lead business continuuity efforts including table exercies and maintenance of plan documents.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- B.S. Degree, preferably in a health or science relate field, with 10 or more years of program or process management experience in a GMP environment.
- Training in and proven experience with Lean Six Sigma, Root Cause Analysis, and/or other process improvement tools and techniques required.
- Proven track record of project and change management successes.
- Strong analytical thinking skills, excellent problem-solving skills, concern for impact and ability to explain complicated issues to cross-functional groups at different levels in the organization are a must for this position.
- Knowledge of bulk API manufacturing, especially in oligonucleotides, is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively coach and develop personnel at many levels.
- Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Organization, flowchart software, and project management software preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills a must.
