About this opportunity :

 

The Process Safety Engineer will focus on the development, implementation, and support of a Process Safety Management (PSM) system for operations at all Nitto Avecia and Nitto Avecia Pharma Services sites. The incumbent collaborates in the development, implementation, and support of the EHS management system. This position also assists with collecting key performance indicators, maintaining EHS compliance documentation and making recommendations for continual improvement of EHS systems. The key responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by the position but is not a complete list. Key Responsibilities: 

 

  • Facilitates employee engagement through task-based risk assessments, cross-functional meetings, Gemba walks, etc.
  • Compiles and maintains Process Safety Information (PSI), ensuring it remains up to date by working with various cross-functional departments.
  • Facilitates Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) exercises with cross-functional teams using techniques such as “what if” analysis, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Hazard and Operability Study (HazOp).
  • Manages the EHS Management of Change (MOC) program, including hands-on review of EHS impact of changes, and cross-functional team review of changes.
  • Manages a variety of EHS programs including Contractor Safety, Mechanical Integrity, Hazardous (“Hot”) Work, Electrical Safety and Hazardous Energy Control.
  • Facilitates Pre-startup Safety Review (PSSR).
  • Conducts audits of facilities and site operations to ensure compliance with the PSM system.
  • Reviews and revises operating procedures for EHS considerations collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Develop and present interactive EHS training sessions that effectively educate and inspire action to recognize and control hazards.
  • Facilitates analysis of EHS events and coordinate implementation of corrective actions.
  • Provides guidance to managers and employees to educate them on independent hazard recognition and control.
  • Coordinate and participate in site emergency response teams (chemical spills, medical emergencies, and building evacuation) as applicable.
  • Be on call to coordinate response to emergencies as they arise.
  • Maintain required documentation for EHS compliance.
  • Travel required approximately 25%.

 

Required Skills:

 

  • Minimum 10 years of experience developing and managing an OSHA-compliant Process Safety Management (PSM) system according to 29 CFR 1910.119 in a chemical processing environment. Experience with flammable liquids strongly preferred.
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering or closely related field with 15+ years of hands-on experience in chemical processing, including EHS experience with requirements from local, state and federal agencies including OSHA, EPA, DOT, and NFPA.
  • Master’s degree strongly preferred, Chemical Engineering P.E. preferred.
  • Working knowledge of the Massachusetts Hazardous Materials Processing regulations (527 CMR 33) preferred.
  • Superb leadership skills, including effective communication and the skill to influence across all hierarchical levels of the organization, required.
  • Capability to effectively collaborate with other EHS team members, e.g. mentoring, advising, supporting, etc., to maintain a strong EHS management system, required.
