About this opportunity :

 

This position reports to the Director of Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS), and executes hands-on EHS functions, providing education and tools to employees and managers as required. This position also assists with collecting key performance indicators, maintaining EHS compliance documentation and making recommendations for continual improvement of EHS systems.

 

Key Responsibilities: 

 

  • Facilitate hazard assessments, especially pertaining to the use of chemical, biological, and physical agents, including coordination or performance of industrial hygiene monitoring.
  • Develop and implement EHS programs to identify and manage risks.
  • Develop and present interactive EHS training sessions that effectively educate and inspire action to recognize and control hazards.
  • Facilitate follow-up of EHS events and coordinate implementation of corrective actions.
  • Provide guidance to managers and employees to educate them on independent hazard recognition and control.
  • Participate in or lead risk reduction programs and continual improvement activities.
  • Facilitate or coordinate EHS audits of facilities and site operations.
  • Coordinate and participate in site emergency response teams (chemical spills, medical emergencies, and building evacuation) as applicable.
  • Be on call to coordinate response to emergencies as they arise.
  • Assist in the handling of regulated, unregulated and universal waste, maintenance and inspection of satellite and main accumulation areas, and preparation of waste for shipment.
  • Maintain required documentation for EHS compliance.
  • Travel required approximately 5-25%.

 

Required Skills:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational health & safety, environmental science or closely related field with 5-10 years of hands-on EHS experience, preferably in a pharmaceutical, biotechnology or chemical processing related field, including experience with requirements from local, state and federal agencies including OSHA, EPA, DOT, and NFPA.
  • Superb leadership skills, including effective communication and the skill to influence across all hierarchical levels of the organization, required.
  • Desire to learn through on-the-job experience, formal and informal research, required.
  • Capability to effectively collaborate with other EHS team members, e.g. mentoring, advising, supporting, etc., to maintain a strong EHS management system, required.
  • Experience with hazard assessment and control of chemical, biological, and physical agents in both manufacturing and laboratory settings required.
  • Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist or other EHS professional certification preferred.
  • Hands-on experience in incident command, emergency response, and HAZMAT preferred.
  • Experience in a CGMP (FDA-regulated) environment or an OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) facility preferred.

 

The starting salary for this position is between $100,000 and $140,000 annually.
