POSITION OVERVIEW:

Under general supervision, develop new and improve upon existing products, optimize manufacturing techniques and processes in regard to cost and productivity. Research, sustain and evaluate competitors’ product information in database format. Collaborate with key, high-level customers and departments across the organization and serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for company’s products. Initiate, develop and manage product development and manufacturing process improvement projects, ensuring effective communication to senior management. Collaborate with other groups within the company to ensure deliverables to customers. Initiate patents and work with attorney. Contribute to and sustain database of product drawings and properties. 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Evaluates performance of new products; produces detailed drawings based on concept sketches. Learns and utilizes parametric modeling software such as SolidWorks and Autodesk Inventor.
  2. Analyzes competitor products and technical literature to determine constraints and opportunities for new products, ensures organization’s designs are state-of-the-art and do not infringe on other patents and initiates patents for new products including drafting for legal review. 
  3. Develops ideas for novel and proprietary product designs and ways to significantly improve existing product offerings. Interfaces with other engineers and vendors to insure proper design.  Acts as Project Leader for the development of new products and prototypes. 
  4. Initiate new project programs, generate project timeline and monitor project progress.
  5. Evaluates and approves material specifications and vendors and suppliers to facilitate senior engineers’ projects. Develops bill of materials, specifications and tolerances for products; originates and oversees work instructions to transfer product from prototype to manufacturing, including training for appropriate staff.
  6. Uses Design of Experiment techniques and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to optimize product design and reduce development time. 
  7. Optimizes manufacturing techniques with respect to cost, productivity, longevity, efficiency, yield and final product quality. 
  8. Originates correspondence with regulatory agencies such as DWI, NSF, ACS and KIWA and private entities globally; takes necessary actions to obtain required product certifications and achieve “Fit for Use” certifications.
  9. Other duties as assigned.
     

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE:

  1. Bachelor of Science in Chemical, Manufacturing, or Mechanical Engineering; and 6 years’ experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Water industry experience, a plus. 
  3. Advanced working knowledge of water chemistry concepts, fluid flow and water pressure as well as analytical method and technical writing; above average understanding of Reverse Osmosis, Ultrafiltration and Microfiltration processes and products. 
  4. Strong knowledge of statistical analysis and experimental designs skills using software for stress analysis calculations in the Design of Experiment practices. 
  5. Working knowledge in drafting and defending patents.
  6. Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on with hand tools and machine shop equipment and practices.
  7. Exceptional Microsoft Office Suite software applications such as Microsoft Project, Autodesk and JD Edwards. Create, read and interpret 2D and 3D CAD Drawings and conduct thorough Internet searches.  
  8. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where limited standardization exists.
  9. Bilingual in Chinese language a plus.

Salary $91,000.00 - $100,000.00
