Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Staff Accountant to join our accounting team. This position will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting period-end close processes, and ensuring compliance with company and regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working independently, as the role is based at a location where the direct manager is not on site. The incumbent will be responsible for recording business transactions in accordance with Nitto Group Accounting rules, which are IFRS based in order to report the entity’s financial information to HQ in Japan.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations for assigned accounts.
- Report monthly financial information in the consolidation system (DIVA).
- Manage cashflow.
- Work closely with Manager for the preparation of the annual budget.
- Work with the external tax consultant on tax filing.
- Prepare, verify, and analyze accounting records, financial statements, and other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.
- Manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing process.
- Maintain fixed asset records and reports.
- Assist with annual internal and external audits.
- File monthly sales/use tax returns and annual 571L property tax reports.
- Perform other general duties as necessary.
- Determine appropriate GL accounts and business unit for each business transaction.
- Prepare worksheet/calculation sheet in order to prepare proper journal entries.
- Analyse business transactions and record the accurate financial data into JDE in accordance with Nitto Group Accounting Rules.
- Continue to seek improvement in current processes.
Minimum Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university preferred; 3 to 7 years’ experience in accounting/financial audit
Certificates, Licenses and/or Registration
- USCPA (preferred)
Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities:
- Strict attention to detail; highly organized and efficient.
- Team player with ability to collaborate with teams in other locations;
- Ability to work with confidential information;
- Ability to work with a minimum of supervision;
- Ability to work with other functions
Computer Skills
- Proficient using Windows, file management, and system navigation.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Team, etc.)
- Confident using web browsers, search engines, online forms, and cloud storage (e.g. SharePoint, OneDrive, etc.).
- Accurate and efficient in typing and handling data in spreadsheets or databases.
- Understands basic cybersecurity practices like strong passwords and identifying phishing attempts.
